Start your pedals!

Today is the first official work day of Bike to Work Month. Nature is smiling down on us with clear, blue skies and sunshine. I hope this gorgeous day helps people leave their car keys at home.
We spent a few hour Saturday afternoon at the first annual Bike Fashion Show. A fun gathering of bike vendors and bike related items. The Bike Fashion show was a great tongue and cheek presentation with people sporting bike fashion and fancy bicycles.

Yes you are seeing this right. This is a recumbent bike with a child's seat on the back. I don't know how many parking spaces it takes up but it does make for nice family outings. There was the odd, the cute, the practical and the sleek, all gathered for the show.
Make it a goal this month to make one errand run on your bike. A simple backpack can help you with parcels. Being on a bike path versus the maniac traffic lane will give you a new perspective, it will help you be good to our earth. It might help you find a new, health hobby.

Bike to Work Month

Signore Greve and Celli ride through Africa in the book, "If We Hopped on Our Bike..."

It is officially time to put away the skis and think bicycling thoughts. What has brought on this sport shift? Well, it is May which is ( insert trumpet blast) BIKE TO WORK MONTH!

This isn't just a Hallmark opportunity or a cheesy excuse to talk with a funny accent, think "Talk like a Pirate" day, no this is a month to consider if you can spend a little more time on your bike and a little less time in your car. Bike commuting is a great way to get a little more exercise. You know you have been trying to find ways to incorporate more physical activity into you life. It is a great way to save money at the gas station. Yep, I've seen your credit card bill. You can finally have those buns of steel. Swim suit season is almost here. So what is stopping you?

Saturday, May 1, 1-3 p.m. at University Center there will be a fun bike fashion show. Lots of fun bicycle items will be there along with discussion and suggestions all designed to help you work out the kinks that prevent you from biking to work. Problems such as, "What about my hair?" or "But I sweat like a pig?" Or maybe it's "I need to wear professional clothes." There isn't a solution that can't be found. After one week of riding into work instead of slurping expensive, sugary coffee drinks while sitting in traffic, you'll be hooked.

Come see me tomorrow at the University Center. I will be the one with the bike art and the bike t-shirt and the bike notepad....you get the idea.

Bike to Work

Today is National Bike to Work day. The whole week has involed a greater awareness of the wonders biking can do for our earth, our bodies and our minds. Of course being a HUGE cyclist myself I can't help but be drawn to any kind of bike art. We have 4 pieces of artwork displayed featuring bicycles and we have one waiting for a frame. This image is from artist Darrell Hill called "Retro Bikes". Signore Greve himself came from a wonderful biking journey Steve and I made through Italy. Creativity comes easier on a bike ( see blog Pondering and Pedaling). Freed from the roar of traffic and frustration of red lights ideas and images come easier.

I am embarking on a huge project. A project that I have to confess has me a bit overwhelmed. Signore Greve is soon to become his own children's book. I have done the boring work, pricing cost, shipping solutions etc. Now is the time to nail down the story line and get painting. I hope to have the finished product this time next year. Bike to work day will also include my book showing Greve and Celli enjoying the wonders of this world on his bike.
I hope you were able to enjoy some pedal power today. If not, be sure to make a goal to see the your part of the world from a bike seat. Your mind will thank you.
